Sometimes, it’s hard to wake up and feel like “today is going to be a productive day.” Not an earth-shattering statement, I know, but something that I’m pretty sure everyone can identify with. The feeling that seems to settle on you over night that, when you wake in the morning, feels like it has been there all along and won’t be pushed aside for any amount of get up and get crackin’ attitude you throw at it. Those are the days I make lists. Lists that include things like “brush teeth,” “make bed,” “feed dog,” and “feed self.” But today was not a list day. Today
was is a day that I woke up wanting to make something. I wanted to make someone happy, including myself. So I made this:
Fresh from the garden cantaloupe and cucumber, picked yesterday. A healthy sprinkle of salt and pepper to finish, a cup of coffee to complement, and a visit from a friendly Peruvian that caught a ride on the breakfast tray.
Later I’ll be baking something that would make any sane person on earth *very* happy. I’ll give you a clue: it starts with cheese and ends with cake.
What kind of day is it for you?
